Notice: Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Senior Living programs have been postponed indefinitely.
When seniors have daily care needs that exceed what they can obtain at home, it is common for them to make a move to senior living communities. While SAJSS does not advocate for or against any specific communities, we do recognize a few in the area with higher numbers of Jewish residents. We currently collaborate with four communities to run onsite Jewish programming for any of their residents who wish to participate.
Several times a month, a member of the SAJSS staff visits residents in senior communities to show a Jewish-themed film and to engage the seniors in discussion before and after the film. Sometimes, we bring special treats or may combine these movie showings with lunch, depending on arrangements with the facility.
We try to ensure we are always showing engaging and entertaining content for residents, and it's not uncommon for us to see them bring a friend now and then.

and SENIORS AND KIDS!
Intergenerational programs have proven to be beneficial to seniors for social interaction, intellectual stimulation, and increased physical activity. They also help children gain a better understanding of aging, compassion, and service to others.
Yad B'Yad is a wonderful intergenerational program in our community, and SAJSS is proud to partner with Heintz Preschool of Congregation Agudas Achim to make it possible. The children at Heintz have a monthly activity with Jewish seniors in nearby senior communities, and the residents always look forward to the energy and sunshine the children's visits bring.
Shabbat with Seniors
SAJSS coordinates with local clergy and other qualified community volunteers to lead Shabbat services onsite at senior communities. We usually do this twice a month at each community, and we publish the dates and locations of the Shabbat services in our monthly newsletter with the senior-friendly calendar.
SAJSS Vice President, Howard Feinberg, shares his musical talents and facilitates Shabbat services.
